Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
