Comeback Medvedev Secures First Title in Nearly 30 Months

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.
The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.
"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.
But the player has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.
He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the final five games to take the lead.
Both players traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour championship, gained dominance to create a decider.
Moutet defended 4 early-game chances in a competitive final set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, he clinched the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
