Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then located many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.

A senior representative commented the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
